I Want You to Put the Word Out There That We Back Up

Well, here we are. My last post was in 2023 and they just stopped with no warning. I know that I mentioned within the context of some of the posts that I was beginning a grad school program and wanted to try to keep up with this and suspected I would be able to do so. As you can tell, that was not the case and I ended up tailing off pretty quickly after the program picked up. Fast forward a few years and I have now graduated and have the time I need to restart this again and plan to do just that. While I was not writing, I never stopped following MMA during this time, although I did not consume nearly as much content outside of the fights themselves as I used to. I also did not track my bets during that time, but I will be returning to doing that consistently. I am excited to be back and if anyone who used to read my posts a few years ago is reading this now then it is great to have you back. If you are new then I am glad to have you. In any case, I want you to put the word out that we back up. It is full steam ahead from here on out.

UFC Vegas 51 Preview: Vicente Luque vs Belal Muhammad II

 It isn't normal that I don't talk about this weekends card until the Friday post, but this is one of those situations. This weekends UFC event lacks the name value outside of few fighters beyond the main event, but I still think it should be a decent card. While none of the prelims or basically any fight beyond Luque vs Muhammad will have any major impact on a division, the fights should still be relatively competitive. In my opinion, a good fight is when both competitors are at the same relative level of ability. Of course, it is a lot more fun when the opponents are ranked or are fighting in a title eliminator or something like that, but that doesn't mean we can't get good, solid, fun competition outside of the rankings. I think this card will have a decent bit of that. Honestly, the Bellator card on Friday (the day this comes out, but I'm typing on Thursday) should be just as good. UFC Vegas 43 Preview: Miesha Tate vs Ketlen Vieira

This Saturday's main event will see former UFC and Strikeforce bantamweight champion Miesha Tate face fellow ranked bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira. This fight figures to be pretty even and the current betting lines suggest as much. Due to the dominance of champion Amanda Nunes, a win, especially for Tate, could potentially provide her with enough momentum to get the next title shot, assuming Nunes is able defeat Julianna Pena in their December bantamweight title fight. This fight has some interesting dynamics going into it. Vieira has 13 career fights with a record of 11-2, with 7 of those fights coming in the UFC for a 5-2 record. Unfortunately for Vieira, both of those losses have come in 2 of her last 3 appearances. For someone who doesn't have a lot of fights under their belt and especially not a lot of losses, we'll see how her confidence is effected when she steps into the cage with someone with the name recognition of Miesha Tate. UFC Columbus Fallout: What's Next for Kai Kara-France and Askar Askarov?

 I still really don't know how Kai Kara-France vs Askar Askarov wasn't the co-main event. I think that was the fight that everyone was looking forward to the most and it showed in the crowd's response. Obviously they were loud for the home town fighter in Matt Brown, but in terms of fights without a direct connection to the crowd, that got the loudest pop of the night. I'm glad this was the case because this was a huge fight and it really delivered. Regardless of when it happens, I believe this was the number one contender fight for me and I'll be really disappointed if Kai ends up having to fight again before his title shot. As for Askarov, I don't think his stock drops all that much. We still know that he's a very good fighter and he's not going anywhere.
