UFC Austin Roundup: What's Next for Some of the Card's Big Winners?

UFC Austin delivered in a big way this past Saturday in what was one of the most entertaining cards in awhile. I think they said that it tied the record for the most finishes in a single UFC event and I think we really needed an event like that. It isn't that the previous events were awful necessarily, but the crazy moments and fights had seemed to be few and far between. I haven't talked about UFC 275 yet, but I thought that fight really lacked outside of a couple of moments and the big three fights at the end. With so many huge wins, there's a lot to cover in this one, so I'm not going to drag this intro any longer. If you're not familiar with this format, it is essentially a cut down version of my fallout posts. I briefly talk about some of the most important fighters and wins from the card and give some suggestions as to what could be on the horizon for them.  The first fighter to talk about is Roman Dolidze. He started the whole night off and did so with a ban...

UFC Austin Fallout: What's Next for Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar?

Now that I am fully back from vacation, I can come back to bringing you guys full time posts again and we'll start with what just happened on Saturday. I am sick though, so I'm hoping that it doesn't get too much worse than what it already is. The card from this weekend was pretty insane and hopefully this is the pathway towards the UFC doing more and more live Fight Nights like we saw pre pandemic. I honestly don't mind the Apex shows that much, but I would much prefer them to be the "change of pace" instead of the norm. Being able to hear the fighters, the impact of the strikes, and the corners is very interesting to me personally, but not when it happens for 75% of the events or more. I think one event at the Apex here and there, especially those cards where the main event wouldn't draw close to a full crowd, is perfectly fine, but the cards with the meaningful fights in the main event need a crowd. Anyways, the main event between Josh Emmett and Calvi...

UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Emmett Full Card Picks

Well, I'm back from vacation and am doing this in a bit of a rush. It is 9:30 am on the east coast, so I'm going to try and get this out as soon as possible to keep the integrity of the picks up. I think this card is pretty fun and I know a lot of people don't like the really long cards, but I'm a fan. Give me as much action as possible even if the first fight or two aren't particularly high level. Just to be clear,  my picks will be in the bolded font , and  the real results will be listed next to it in italics  after the fight is official. Kyle Daukaus defeats Roman Dolidze                         Result: Dolidze by KO (0-1)          First fight of the night should be an interesting one, but I think Daukaus is the more skilled fighter here. I think he is simply the better striker and he is going to throw with more volume. Dolidze has good power, but he is so low output t...

UFC 275 Full Card Picks

Well, you guys probably know by now that I'm on vacation and I didn't get to the preview for the main event, but for the sake of keeping an accurate record, I have to keep these picks for every fight. You know the deal by now. I pick every fight and give a brief explanation as to why I feel the way I do. I'm pretty excited for this card. It isn't the most exciting card in terms of name value by and large, but the last three fights should be really fun, so I'm looking forward to it. Just to be clear,  my picks will be in the bolded font , and  the real results will be listed next to it in italics  after the fight is official. Ramona Pascual defeats Joselyne Edwards                 Result: Edwards by decision (0-1)          We're starting off with a bit of a weird one. This should largely be the standard striker vs grappler matchup. Edwards will have noticeably better striking both offensively ...

UFC 275 Preview: Valentina Shevchenko vs Taila Santos

Alright guys, if you’ve been reading all week, you know I’m on vacation starting today, so, keep that in mind. I’m writing this on my phone so I’m sure autocorrect will get me a few times at some point. This may be a bit shorter than usual, but I said these previews would come out, so I didn’t want to shortchange everyone. However, they may be a bit shorter than what a preview may typically look like. Anyways, the co-main event of UFC 275 will see Valentina Shevchenko defending her women’s flyweight title against new challenger Taila Santos. Valentina is probably the closest thing we have to that “invincible champion” these days and that has a lot of people dismissing this fight. While I definitely think Taila Santos would’ve benefited from having additional high level fights before getting this title shot, I think she is certainly live here and might be the most interesting opponent that Valentina has had in a few fights now. That isn’t to say that I’m picking Santos to win, but ...

UFC 275 Preview: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Zhang Weili II

I'm not sure why, but if feels like it has been forever since UFC 274. It is exactly a month to the day that I'm writing this, but Oliveira vs Gaethje just feels so long ago. I'm excited to have another PPV card in front of us and we are getting three really big fights on this one. The first of which is a rematch of the best fight in the history of women's mixed martial arts and one of the best fights I have personally ever seen in real time. It may very well be impossible for this fight to live up to the first one, but I do expect that we'll see another great fight between these two. It is a bit of a different situation though, so maybe temper those expectations just a bit. These are both former champions, so I don't think the circumstances will effect them as much as they would lesser fighters. This is when the card will start to feel big and I can't wait for it. I think Joanna will be the blue corner in this one, so we'll start with her. There was a ...

UFC Vegas 56 Round Up: What's Next For Some of The Card's Big Winners?

I say it every week, but this is truly becoming maybe my favorite thing to do on this blog. I love making the picks and doing the write ups for that because I feel like it has given me a greater understanding of the sport overall. The more I look into these fights and try to break them down to give you guys a pick or possibly a bet to make, the better I feel about the direction of this blog. So many cites will talk about the big fights, but I think giving attention to most fights equally (some get the big previews) is a lane that not a ton of people take. I'm sure there are some out there that break down every fight in as much or even more detail than I do, I'm just not particularly familiar with them. With as long as it takes me to put those together, I don't really have time to even go out and look for other picks even if I wanted to. To be honest, I really wouldn't even want to copy someone else's picks even if it made more successful at it. The process is fun t...
